Hi,I'm Melissa.
CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER
"Life isn't a straight line; our stories are as unique as we are."
From a young age, I've been drawn to supporting others, whether it was learning basic ASL to assist my
elderly neighbor, mediating disputes among friends, or simply offering a compassionate ear. Social Work
feels like a natural path that chose me, driven by my own experiences and a passion for helping people
find their footing.
As a first-generation New Yorker born to Portuguese and Jamaican immigrant parents, but raised by a
single mother, I recognize that our stories are just half the journey. It's essential to understand that each
of us carries multilayered narratives.
My goal is to create a safe space where clients can explore, heal, and embrace their authentic selves. I
firmly believe that acknowledging 'It’s okay, not to feel okay' is a key step, and we can navigate this
journey together. Through life’s continuous ebbs and flows, our resilience and willingness to seek
support are incredible strengths.
For over a decade, I've been in the non-profit sector, guiding school-aged children, adolescents, young
adults, and families through various life aspects: from education, vocational learning, and career paths to mental and physical well-being. Embracing diversity in culture, ethnicity, and age is at the core of
my work.
As a divorced single mother, I've charted my own path, and look to providing this support for others
navigating their unique journeys. With a love for the outdoors and three furry companions at home, I
eagerly anticipate every new chapter. My journey includes a Bachelor's in Psychology from Franklin & Marshall College, ongoing studies for a Master's Degree in Social Work at Fordham University, and certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid."
